Synopsis:
A shiny blue bird in a thorny thicket of dark silver, stone drops falling from a metal cloud, a ghost train loaded with mysterious treasure – Australian artist Helen Britton’s jewelry seems to emerge from some forgotten Wunderkammer. And yet her art is modern, avant-garde jewelry, admired and collected around the world. Accompanying the artist on her search for precious and everyday materials and her exploration of nearly forgotten craft techniques, Hunter From Elsewhere – A Journey With Helen Britton shows her encounters with the last remaining keepers of a vanishing knowledge, visiting stone carvers in Idar-Oberstein (Rhineland-Palatinate), glassblowers in Lauscha (Thuringia), to the heavy industry sites of her childhood in Newcastle (New South Wales) and Bangkok.
Authors Jewelry is a hidden genre inside the art world – known to hardly anybody outside this circle. „Hunter from Elsewhere“ follows one of its most accomplished and renowned artists and allows a glimpse into this intriguing world. Beyond a mere artist portrait it is a sometimes melancholic reflection on memories, our attempt to keep the past alive and time’s relentless passage.
The Soundtrack includes indie electronic pieces by cult bands like The Notwist, Driftmachine, Radio Citizen, Sasebo and Mount Hush.
